A deputation from County Tipperary is to meet with Justice Minister Alan Shatter today in an effort to save the Kickham Barracks in Clonmel from closure.

The government is considering closing a number of barracks around the country and it is feared that Clonmel barracks is on that list.

Families of those based there, are concerned that soldiers may be transferred to Limerick, which would incur significant expense, while there are also concerns at the impact that such a closure would have on the local economy.
