The owner and manager of Thurles Racecourse, Pierce Molony has died at the age of 65. Mr Molony took over the running of the racecourse in 1974 upon the death of his father Paddy Molony. The racecourse has been in the family for a number of generations. Mr Molony passed away after a long illness and is survived by his wife Riona and four daughters.
Local TD Michael Lowry has paid respects to Mr Molony today, calling him 'a real gentleman and true friend' who was 'a loving and devoted husband' and 'incredible father'. He added that 'he will be sadly missed by his family, a legion of friends and the entire industry'.
