The interim CEO of the South West Hospital group has confirmed publicly that there are no plans to reduce the 24 hour a day 7 day-a week- emergency service at South Tipperary General Hospital.

Gerry O'Dwyer gave a commitment at the meeting of the Regional Health Forum for the southern region.

He was responding to recent reports that a leaked HSE document contained within it a recommendation that the 24-hour A&E department at South Tipp General be cut as part of wider money-saving measures.

According to independent councillor Tom Wood who was at the meeting  Mr ODwyer said that approval has been given to appoint a second consultant to there to ensure continued coverage.
