A complete ban on visiting has been put in place at South Tipperary General Hospital due to suspected cases of the Norovirus, otherwise known as the vomiting bug.

Visiting to all wards at the hospital is prohibited apart from exceptional circumstances which includes critical care patients.

Visits to the maternity or gynaecological wards are restricted to partners or designated persons only.

Parents or guardians of children will only be permitted to the children's ward and no children are allowed to visit the hospital.

Cancer, emergency and outpatient services will continue as normal and the situation is being kept under daily review.

Hospital authorities also suggest that where appropriate, mobile phone contact between families should be considered as an alternative to visiting.
