It has emerged that on three-quarters of occasions, South Tipperary Hospital failed to discharge patients to ambulances within the amount of time recommended by the HSE. The finding is contained within a report compiled by the National Ambulance Service upon a request by TD Denis Naughton. In 25 of emergency departments, more than half of all ambulances were delayed beyond the 20 minute recommended ambulance turnaround time. The rate increased to 89% at Cork University Hospital, 80% at University Hospital Galway, 76% in Mullingar and 75% at South Tipperary General Hospital. In the course of the past year, hospitals have faced critism for failing to free ambulances on time, after a number of people died while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. |
