Pharmaceutical plant in Cashel due to close.

As many as 126 jobs are to be lost at the Ranbaxy pharmaceutical plant in Cashel, after staff were informed that the facility is to close.
After taking over Ranbaxy’s international operations in the first half of last year, Sun Pharma has, unsuccessfully, been trying to sell the plant.
The company has also been reorganising global operations, with certain operations being moved to countries with cheaper operating costs.
The news is going to come as a big blow to Cashel, with manufacturing to cease by the end of April and the jobs are to go by mid May.

Suicide prevention in South Tipperary - Have your say

 A series of public meetings will be held over the coming weeks to develop a Suicide Prevention Action Plan for South Tipperary. These public meetings will be hosted by community partners to help identify local needs and to develop a local strategy that can improve mental health and prevent suicidal behaviour in South Tipperary.

Visitor restrictions at South Tipperary General Hospital.

Visitor access to a ward at South Tipperary General Hospital has been stopped due to an outbreak of the Norovirus, otherwise known as the Winter Vomiting Bug.

Trolley numbers at South Tipperary General Hospital highest nationally today.

South Tipperary General Hospital today had the highest number of people nationally waiting for beds.
 
In total, 44 people were either on trolleys or on wards awaiting beds.
 
The figure nationally was 437.  This figure excludes St Vincent’s in Dublin which is not in a position to provide a ward figure to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

Efforts in Co Tipperary to form political party with focus on rural Ireland

Efforts are underway in Co Tipperary to form a political party with the focus on rural Ireland.
Involved in the process is Andrew O’Halloran who played a significant role in campaigning for the reinstatement of the Rural Practise Allowance in Bansha upon the retirement of the local GP.
Speaking to Tipp Mid West, Andrew pointed out that as the various political entities are negotiating with each other on forming a new government, rural Ireland, he said, is being used as a bargaining tool, yet rural policy has been ignored to date.
