Frontline workers to attend rally

Workers from Co Tipperary will be among the thousands of frontline workers expected to attend a rally against pay cuts in Dublin tonight.

The rally will take place at the National Basketball arena in Tallagh as the government seeks to cut pay and allowances in order to save €1 billion over the next three years

Consolidation of hospital services

The public will be called upon to undertake a concerted campaign if the maternity services at South Tipperary General Hospital are targeted as part of a consolidation of hospital services in the South East.

Independant TD Seamus Healy gave a warning this morning in the wake of a leaked draft report in which proposals to cut the number of maternity units in the south east from four to three are contained.

Speaking to Tipperary Mid West Radio Deputy Healy said that should the maternity unit in Clonmel be scrapped it would downgrade the hospitals status to day hospital status.

Economic Recovery of the Mid West

The economic recovery of the Mid-West Region will be the main focus of the 18th annual Mid West Regional Authority (MWRA) Conference, details of which were announced today.

Alan Kelly TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport will offically open the Conference at the Horse & Jockey Hotel on Friday 1st March.

Entitled "Economic Recovery - Progress in the Regions" the conference will feature presentations from business, Government and Local Government leaders on the current state of the Irish Economy and how regions such as the Mid West can play a leading role in its eventual recovery.
