It has emerged that 25 administration staff at the Dept of Agriculture Offices in Tipperary are to be redeployed elsewhere.

Tipperary Mid West Radio has been informed that the 25 staff members will be redeployed to a new branch of the garda vetting office at the Dept of Justice Offices in Tipperary Town.

Staff are said to be upset at the news and there are now concerns that the decision which is yet to be officially announced will mean that from the date of redeployment, there will no longer be an office open to take the queries of farmers.

There are around 60 people based at the DVO offices on Davis Street in Tipperary Town

Fine Gael TD Tom Hayes has told Tipperary Mid West Radio today that the future of the Offices of the Department of Agriculture in Tipperary town is secure.

Deputy Hayes was commenting after the matter was raised on air this morning and at yesterdays meeting of the county council.

Commenting Deputy Hayes said that while the future of the centre is secure, there is an issue to be dealt with regarding staff and that issue is currently the subject of talks which are at a very sensitive stage.

He has held a number of meetings with the Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney on the matter and is in daily contact with him about it.

He added that every effort is being made to secure the jobs there and he will leave no stone unturned to make that happen.

It is believed that changes in work practices in the agricultiure industrry are leading to changes in the way administration works in the department.
