Money allocated towards work at estate in Roscrea

Over €1 million has been allocated towards work at the unfinished Ashbury estate in Roscrea.

The estate in Question was built in 2006 but was unfinished and later became a location for anti social behaviour.

Nobody lives in the estate at present. 

However, local TD Noel Coonan has announced that €1.1 million has been allocated by the Minister for Housing Jan O'Sullivan 

This money will be used to build 12 new units at the estate as part of a local authority home build initiative

The funding is part of a total of 68 million to be allocated nationwide .

EU-US Free Trade Agreement

MEP for Ireland South Tipperary's Phil Prendergast has said that she will not  vote in favour of an EU-US free trade agreement if it means data protection for EU citizens is impinged upon.

Deputy Prendergast was speaking on the day the European Parliment voted to approve an overhaul of what she termed as "outdated" European data protection rules in the wake of the Edward Snowden affair. 

Deputy Prendergast noted that at present the US is given assess to EU citizens data under certain circumstances for purposes such as law enforcement and counter - terrosim.

Tipperary Town Councillor to run for Fianna Fail in local elections

A Tipperary Town Councillor has been given the go-ahead to run for Fianna Fail in the upcoming Local Elections 

Cllr Brian Rafferty was chosen to represent the party during the week 

He will contest the elections in the Tipperary Cashel municipal area alongside fellow Fianna Fail candidates Joe O'connell and Roger Kennedy.

Burncourt-Fethard Water Scheme

Irish Water has given sanction to a company to carry out work on the Burncourt-Fethard water scheme.

Work on the project had been temporarily suspended after the initial awarding of the contract to Galway company Glan Agua was appealed.

The matter has now been resolved and the company can press ahead with the project which is estimated to cost in the region of €12 million.

The purpose of the water scheme is to bring to an end a boil water notice that has been in effect for around four years for some of the residents of the Fethard Burncourt and Skeheenarinky area due to the presence of cryotosporidum in the water supply. 

The news has been welcomed by the Junior Minister at the Department of Agriculture Tom Hayes.

Garda operation into organised criminal activity

Six people remain in custody today after a total of twelve suspects were arrested yesterday as part of a garda operation into organised criminal activity. 

Two people were released from custody not long after been arrested while two more were arrested on warrant and transferred to prison today a further three two men and a woman were released without charge.
