South Eastern Mountain Rescue search operation on Knockmeadowns praised.

The efforts of search and rescue teams in locating a group of people missing on the Knockmealdowns over the weekend have been praised.

Two adults and three children aged between 8 and 12 got lost on the mountain over Clogheen on Saturday evening.

A major search operation was launched involving members of the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association, the Waterford based Search and Rescue Helicopter and members of the gardai.

Over 40 people took part in the search.

Cocaine discovered by gardaí in Roscrea

An estimated €40,000-worth of cocaine was discovered in the course of a number of searches carried out by gardai in Roscrea yesterday.
In total, four premises in the area were searched as part of Operation Overwatch, which has been set up to target people involved in the distribution of controlled drugs in the Roscrea area.
 
In addition to the drugs seizures, four men were arrested under drug trafficking legislation and were detained at Roscrea, Thurles and Templemore garda stations.
 
Three of the men have since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
One man remains in custody in Templemore.
 
Half of public water supply in Co Tipperary lost through leaks.

It has emerged that more than half of the public water supply in Co Tipperary is being lost through leaks in the system.  In fact 52.69% of all the county’s water is disappearing into the ground.
 
Figures published today listed the leak rates in every county in the country in 2014 and the levels the local authorities and Irish Water want to reduce these rates to by the end of this year.
Irish Water has a reduction target of 2% in mind for 2015.
 
Johnson and Johnson Cashel Sold

The former Johnson and Johnson plant in Cashel has been sold, and the town is being told to prepare for a jobs boost in the coming weeks.
Fine Gael Junior Minister Tom Hayes confirmed the sale but has stopped short of announcing who the purchaser is, apart from indicating that it is a pharmaceutical business currently based in Singapore.
 
He further explained that before Christmas the company expressed its wish to buy the site in order to establish a European base. 
 
Trial for wireless broadband to be carried out in Knockmealdown region

South Tipperary Development Company has announced that it is carrying out a technical trial to see if it can facilitate the introduction of high speed broadband to rural areas.
 
The company, which works to benefit the immediate region has signed an agreement with Chinese broadband firm Wuhan Vstar to carry out this trial of wireless broadband in the Knockmealdown region.
 
If the trial proves to be successful, South Tipperary Development Company and other Leader companies who are involved in the project in their own areas plan to roll out a wider network in the future.
