Former ICMSA President Jackie Cahill emerged victorious from last nights selection convention where he saw off the challenge of four other potential candidates including Clonmel's Síobhan Ambrose and Coalbrook's Imelda Goldsboro.

He says the size of Tipperary means a second Fianna Fail candidate is almost certain.

Fianna Fail will tonight choose one of the candidates it will put forward in in Co Tipperary for the next General Election.
Former TD and minister Martin Mansergh, is among those seeking selection at the Anner hotel Thurles tonight. He will be joined by councillors Imelda Goldsboro, Siobhan Ambrose, Jackie Cahill and Michael Smith Jnr.

Tipperary County Council to voice concerns on Cahir garda station

Tipperary County Council is writing to the garda commissioner asking her to ensure Cahir garda station is not downgraded.
Cllr Andy Moloney made the request after recent figures revealed that garda numbers in the Cahir area have fallen by more than 6%.
The district was one of six that have lost a similar percentage.
Cllr Moloney said that he wants to know if these figures represent ‘the start of a wind-down of district stations’.

Tipperary Peace Prize winner has called on Ireland and UK to take more action on migrant crisis.

The UN Secretary General has called on Ireland and the EU to take more comprehensive action on the Mediterranean migrant crisis.
 
Ban ki-Moon made the comments at a press conference with the Taoiseach on the final day of his three day visit to Ireland- on Sunday evening he was presented with the Tipperary International Peace Award at a ceremony in Ballykisteen.
 
Mr Ban says Enda Kenny has shown "compassionate leadership" throughout the crisis which has seen thousands of people drown in recent months in efforts to flee war and humanitarian disasters in North Africa.
 
He says all EU countries should do more to help migrants - and tackle the causes of the problem.
