Deputy Seamus Healy has called on the government to abolish water charges, saying that the low level of payment of the charges so far indicates a rejection of the water charge policy.
According to official figures released by Irish Water today, less than half of all water charge payments have been made to date.
The utility company has received €30.5 million since the first bills started going out.  That represents 46% of the €66.8 million that was due to Irish Water.
