The former government press secretary PJ Mara has died aged 73.
 
Mara was well known for his work with Fianna Fáil - including managing the party to three general election victories.
 
He joined Fianna Fail as its press secretary in 1983 - and after four years work helped guide the party back into power in 87, then becoming government press secretary.
 
He was well regarded and well liked on all sides.
 
Former Fianna Fail Minister and Tipperary TD Michael Smith says his talents were 'extraordinary' while Martin Mansergh, who served as a special senior advisor to Charlie Haughey, says he has fond memories of him
 
 
Complete visiting ban in place at South Tipperary Hospital

A complete visiting ban is in place at South Tipperary General Hospital.
The decision has been made because of an increased number of patients presenting with influenza.
Visiting to all wards is prohibited apart from in exceptional circumstances, which includes critical care patients.
Visiting is restricted to partners or designated persons only at maternity or gynaecology wards.
Parents or guardians will only be allowed to visit the children’s ward while no children will be allowed to visit the hospital.
 
Plans for a hydro-electric power station in Co Tipperary published

Plans for a hydro-electric power station in Co Tipperary have been published.
The plant will cost in the region of €650 million and its aim is to generate 360 megawatts of electricity – enough to supply 200,000 households.
The plant will be developed from the existing disused open-cast mining site, where operations ceased in 1993, south of Silvermines village in North Tipperary.
The investment will be provided through a joint venture by a number of European construction companies and Irish construction company, Roadbridge as well as developer Siga Hydro.
 
House prices in Co Tipperary rise this year.

A lack of adequate supply has seen house prices in Co Tipperary rise by 1.38% this year, according to the latest figures from the Real Estate Alliance.
That increase has brought the average price for a house in Co Tipperary to €155,000.
 
Gardaí appeal for help in tracing missing Thurles man.

Gardai in Thurles have issued an appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of 46 year-old David Tynan who has been missing from Thurles since last Thursday.
David was last seen at around 11.30pm on Thursday night.
He is described as being six feet, three inches in height and around sixteen stone in weight.
When last seen he was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and boots.  He has short brown hair.
Anyone who has seen David or who can assist in locating him is asked to contact gardai in Thurles on 0504 25100.
