Cycle against Suicide participants left Tipperary town this morning

Hundreds of cyclists, participating in the Cycle Against Suicide left Tipperary town this morning on the 11th day of their awareness campaign..
Today’s route involved the cyclists travelling the 38km to Clonmel, with a short stop in Cahir on the way.
Then, from Clonmel they were due to complete today’s route by cycling the 50km to Waterford.
The purpose of the Cycle Against Suicide is to draw attention to the services that are available for anybody experiencing mental health issues.  It is also a way of telling people that ‘it is ok not to feel ok, and that it’s absolutely ok to ask for help’.
With this in mind, St Anne’s School in Tipp town held an event showcasing all of the mental health services available locally.

TD Mattie McGrath had said in his view new site for National Children's Hospital unsutiable

Co Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath has said in his view, the recent decision to locate the new National Children’s Hospital at the St James’ site is unsuitable because it is not readily accessible for patients who live beyond the M50.
 
National Vetting Bureau statutory requirement for organisations working with children and vulnerable

The system of vetting every person who works with children and vulnerable people is being tightened up from today.
Up until now, the process was handled by the Garda Central Vetting Unit, which was established in 2005.
Back then it managed around 1,000 vetting applications per year.  Since then the annual turnover has increased, and last year, more than 350,000 applications were processed at five centres in Thurles, Tipperary town, Enniscorthy, Waterford and Ennis.  The timeframe in which applications have been processed has also reduced since. 
 
Tipperary County Council to proceed with latest Tenant Purchase Scheme.

The Department of the Environment has given the go-ahead to Tipperary County Council to proceed with the latest Tenant Purchase Scheme.
The new scheme offers some local authority tenants the opportunity to buy their homes from the council.
According to Cllr Siobhan Ambrose, the rules of the scheme specify that approval is based on  a specific level of working income from the tenant, while some houses are also exempt from the scheme, such those designated for the elderly.
 
TD Seamus Healy is to call for re-opening of 40 bed unit at Our Lady's Hospital Cashel

Independent TD Seamus Healy has said that he is to call for the opening of a 40-bed unit at Our Lady’s Hospital in Cashel, as the number of people on trolleys at South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel continues to remain high.
Speaking this morning, Deputy Healy pointed out that on the day in which the first vote for Taoiseach took place, March 10th, 44 people were on trolleys at South Tipperary General Hospital.
