Two of Ireland’s biggest bookmakers have announced that they are to stop taking bets on underage sports.
A recent documentary on Tipperary Mid West Radio highlighted the gambling problems faced by a number of sports people involved in clubs locally.  The issue gained national attention.
Paddy Power and Boyle Sports have now said that they have made the decision to stop taking bets on under-18 sporting fixtures.
The move has been welcomed by the Gaelic Players Association, who said that gambling can cause personal devastation and poses a very real threat to the reputation of inter-county football and hurling in general.
