Four members of staff at a business in Cashel were held hostage for a time today as a man attempted to hold up a pharmacy.
The man entered the pharmacy in Ladyswell at around 10.15am this morning wielding what is now believed to be and imitation firearm. He threatened staff before holding them hostage.
Gardai were alerted to the incident.
Members from the Regional Support Unit, trained negotiators and Gardai from Cashel, Clonmel and Thurles arrived at the scene.
At around 12.20pm the man emerged from the shop and was arrested by Gardai.
Gardai say they deployed a Taser gun in the course of the arrest. The man is said to have been injured and is being held a Cahir Garda station.
He is due in court later.
