Gardai in Thurles are seeking the public's help in relation to the theft of religious artefacts from Holycross Abbey on Tuesday, October 11th. The theft happened at at around 5pm on the day in question after two men were seen walking towards the abbey with an anglegrinder. The relics, contained within foot-high crosses, one of which is said to be from the 'True Cross' , were taken by the men who fled the scene in what is believed to be a wine or red VW Touareg jeep with a registration number of 06 OY or 06 LK. The jeep was later found around three miles away at Yellow Lough, burned out. A dark coloured saloon car was seen in the area travelling at a high speed around the same time and gardai are appealing for anybody who may have seen either vehicle to contact them Thurles gardai can be contacted on (0504) 25100. |
