A family of three was rescued from Lough Derg last night after the boat they were in malfunctioned.

The alarm was raised after 7pm when the engine of the 36-foot cruiser failed just off Hare Head.

Valentia coastguard accompanied by the RNLI responded to the call and brought the family to safety.

The vessel was later towed to Dromineer harbour.
