A Co Tipperary TD has said that a decision by the Energy Minister to hold a review into the feasibility of Eirgrid putting electricity lines underground is a ploy to win favour ahead of the local and European elections .

The claim was made by Deputy Seamus Healy who is opposed to the erection of pylons in Co Tipperary.

He further said that the review is not independant of Eirgrid in so far it is relying on engineering, technical and financial reports which are prepared and supplied by Eirgrid.

The South Tipperary TD has called for a fully independent international review of all aspects of the Gridlock project.
