Gardai have recently noted an increase in thefts that tend to occur with the onset of longer, darker evenings.

In particular, the theft of home heating oil from household tanks is being report at the moment.  Another crime that is resurfacing is the theft from cars parked-up at sports grounds for events, while sports locker rooms are also being targeted during matches.

Gardai say various instances of these crimes are being reported around the county, and are warning people not to take chances with their valuables by leaving them in their cars or in locations where they are clearly visible.  People are also being advised to take the appropriate security measures to ensure their home heating oil tanks are secure and monitored.
