It has emerged that North Tipperary TD Michael Lowry was one of a number of TD's who lobbied the Revenue Comissioners on behalf of the constituents.

In records released by Revenue it is noted that Mr Lowry lobbied repeatedly on behalf of one of his constituents.

Thoes representations were made to Revenue's Mineral Oil prosecutiopn unit in relation to a man who was fined for illegally using green diesel.  Mr Lowry claimed that the man unknowingly used the diesel in question.

That fine was subsequently reduced by Revenue.

However, Mr Lowry is reported to have lobbied further for more of a reduction.

In response to the revelations Revenue said that any decision it made in relation to any of the cases referred to were made independently of any political pressure.

Other politicians who also made representations to Revenue on behalf of their constituents included Co Limerick TD and Fianna Fail Justice Spokesperson Niall Collins as well as the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin

It has emerged that businesses in Co Tipperary are among the slowest in the country to pay other businesses they owe money to.

On average, it took Irish businesses just over 23 days beyond invoice terms to pay their bills in the second quarter of this year.

It has been discovered that the county where businesses were the most prompt at paying their bills was Leitrim at 17 days beyond invoice terms.

Cavan businesses took the longest to pay their bills at 26.84 days.

However, County Tipperary was the sixth slowest county in the country, at 24.58 days.

The survey was carried out by Experian Ireland.

In publishing the findings, the Manager Director at ther global information services company, Fin O'Donnell said that the delays in paying the creditors are improving.

However he also warned Irish businesses that they need to operate with caution and carefully examine their credit policies and procedures to ensure they are only extending credit to those customers that are in a position to pay in a timely manner.
