Tipperary Peace Convention has announced that it is now accepting nominations for the 2015 Tipperary International Peace Award.

The nomination process is open to members of the public and to representatives of organisations and associations.

A short list of nominees will be announced in December and the award winner will be announced in January 2016.

The award will be presented in Tipperary on a date to be confirmed next year.

The recruitment campaign for new members of An Garda Siochana opened today.
The government plans to recruit a total of 600 new recruits next year, bringing the total number of new recruits since the reopening of the garda training college in Templemore in September 2014 to 1,150.

The ongoing uncertainty regarding the future of a GP service in Bansha will be addressed at a meeting to take place in the village tonight.
In the New Year the current GP for the area intends to retire. However, locals are concerned that an HSE decision to withdraw the Rural Practice Allowance will deter any prospective GPs for locating their practice in the area, thus leaving Bansha and a considerable amount of the surrounding hinterland with no local service.
