Supervalu has announced that its branches on Kennedy Avenue, Carlow and Marketplace, Clonmel will close at the end of January 2016, with the loss of a total of 98 jobs.

Bill Kelly, Mandate (Trade Union) Divisional Organiser for the Clonmel store said: "These closures are down to the lack of investment and a continued lack of disposable income for workers and unemployed people in the local areas". Mandate has called for an "urgent" meeting with regard to redundancies and redeployment.

SIPTU has expressed its disappointment with the closures.

The announcement comes just weeks after Caulfield's Supervalu, Tipperary Town shut its doors after over 25 years in business.

Employees are devestated at the announcement, particularly so close to Christmas.
